Growing Through Giving
I was scrolling through my phone the other day when I came across some old photos from when I was in Grade 7 or 8. Looking at them brought back memories of the community activities I participated in back in June 2023, and I realized how much time had passed since then.
Back then, me and my family took part in charitable activities, including delivering gifts and essential supplies to a local shelter and planting trees to contribute to a greener environment. At the time, these activities were simply opportunities to spend time with others and do something meaningful for the community. I did not think too deeply about them, but looking back now, I appreciate those experiences much more.
One of my favorite memories was helping deliver necessities to people who needed them. It was a small contribution, but it reminded me that even simple acts of kindness can make someone’s day a little better. Planting trees also gave me a different perspective on contributing to the community. Unlike an event that ends in a few hours, a tree continues growing long after the day is over.
Finding these photos reminded me that growing up is not only about academic achievements, awards, or reaching new milestones. Sometimes, it is also about looking back at the little things we did and understanding their value more clearly.
I am grateful that I had the opportunity to participate in these activities when I was younger. They are reminders that making a difference does not always require something extraordinary. Sometimes, it begins with showing up, offering a helping hand, and being willing to contribute.
